SHOTTS (GASWORKS) GREYHOUND STADIUM

The small Scottish town of Shotts almost marks the half way point between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and in its past can boast 2 greyhound tracks. The earliest to open was located at Gasworks Park on Station Road and built around the local football ground. It was situated at 3° 47' W 55° 49' N and first opened for business on 20th August 1934. It was independently run and was well supported by the local mining community. It continued to operate for 5 years before closing its gates for the final time on 11th March 1939.
